I tutor students of all ages in all academic subjects. My specialties are math, reading and standardized testing. I am a trained Waldorf teacher and many of my students are connected to Waldorf Education.
Students come to me for help with homework, study skills, organizational skills, assistance with certain subjects, math anxiety, test review, standardized testing, test taking skills, reading and home schooling.
Hiring a tutor can help with family dynamics. Sometimes students can start to take their frustration with studying out on their family members. Hiring someone outside the family dynamics can improve family relationships.
Math
I was a math, computer science and economics major in college. I love math. When I was in 6th grade I was taken out of class for gifted math lessons by my principal with two other students. This gave me extra confidence, so I continued my math studies beyond college. I love to inspire other students to have confidence in their mathematical abilities.
Learning Styles
We all have unique ways of learning. Sometimes students don’t naturally pick up on a subject. I have many ways of figuring out learning styles and then teaching to the particular style. I love to teach students to stop counting on their fingers and discover the joys of mental math. This is an ability we can all master, for some it takes a different strategy to learn. I use a program called Reading Naturally to improve reading fluency. Most reading problems develop from a lack of fluency which can develop in students for many reasons.
Where do you do your tutoring?
I tutor in schools, at libraries and coffee shops, in student’s homes and at my home. We can choose a place that is most convenient for the student and your family.
How much do you charge?
I charge $75 an hour for academic tutoring and $90 an hour for standardized testing.
